Personal letters to the editor – written in your own words – are the most effective. Sample letters are included here as guides for writing your own letter. You can also use parts of these samples in your letter. For some additional suggestions, take a look at the Talking Points.

To the Editor: Research on both adult and early, or embryonic, stem cells is an important issue – especially for the thousands of Nebraska adults and children afflicted with diseases and injuries that could someday be cured with stem cell therapies.
The opponents’ main objection to early stem cell research is their contention that a microscopic cluster of cells in a laboratory dish is a person. They have the right to hold this belief.
Many Nebraskans, along with leading national and state medical and patient organizations, disagree. We support all types of stem cell research.
To show my support, I joined the Nebraska Coalition for Lifesaving Cures. This coalition is dedicated to educating Nebraskans on stem cell research, therapies and potential cures.
You can find out more about the coalition and get the facts about stem cell research by visiting the coalition’s website www.NebraskaCures.com.
Sincerely,

To the Editor: We need to let scientists do their jobs and conduct the stem cell research that’s needed to find lifesaving cures for ALS, diabetes, Parkinson’s and many other debilitating diseases and injuries. And we need to ensure that as research leads to cures, those cures remain available to Nebraskans just as they are to other Americans.
What we don’t need are politicians trying to restrict our access to federally approved stem cell cures.
Decisions on medical treatments should continue to be made by patients, their families and their doctors. All Nebraskans need to protect this vitally important right.
Sincerely,
